A SUMMER FILLED WITH DRAWING
We have had a great summer drawing around Yellowknife. We have endured record smoke levels and even had to end one drawing evening early because of black bear was in the neighbourhood. The RCMP encouraged us to do so!
Tonight was our last night. It is getting cooler, which you can see! The sun is going down earlier and earlier...fall is in the air.

Marcella and Lynn
Lynn avoiding looking at me! :)
It was a fun evening!
Concentrating! Penny, we will miss you.
I left my drawing kit at a friend's home. So I discovered that I have these cool copic markers that are various values of grey. Fun to work with tonight!
The final night of Drawing YK on Thursdays. We will do it again starting about June 10th next year!
We meet again on September 15th!

Drawing YK on Thursdays
Here we are at the start. The breeze was lovely up there until it completely died down. I guess it does that every evening. I don't live near the water so I had never noticed that. Interesting.
Distractions were plenty up at Pilots Monument! From these very noisy young ravens. They were a hoot to watch. The carrying on and the squawking and commotion were fun.
This young one, you can still see the soft browns in her feathers, sat on this sign just feet away from everyone showing off how beautiful she is! Also the raven was directly in the way of one of the people drawing.
We had planes taking off and boats zooming past. It was hard to stay focused on drawing when there were so many photo opportunities. :)
But we did manage to draw. Here is Joyce and Penny. Joyce's shirt is extremely red looking because of the forest fire smoke in the air (which you can see in the background).
Lynn working away.
Kevin joined in on all the fun!
And drawing is a load of fun.
The last of us. The smoke was very thick and getting thicker.
The results!
We meet at Fred Henne Park (beach parking) on Thursday. Come and Join us. All levels welcomed. If it actually rains on Thursday we will meet at the CO-OP instead!

Drawing YK week 3
Today we went out to the Giant Mine boat launch. There was so many things to draw that I am sure we will be back again this summer.
It was cool by the water tonight. We just sat down and started to draw!
Joyce drawing some boats.
Yichao drawing some of the cool old machinery just by the boat launch.
All the various results!
I learned that we need to do the selfie group photo before we speed out to draw!
Come and join us next week Thursday at Pilots Monument.

Drawing YK!
So we started meeting last week Thursday to draw different places in Yellowknife.
We started at City Hall.
Joyce, Lynn and Shawna braving the mosquitoes and forest fire ash!
The results! The time flew so quickly tonight...even with the mosquitoes.
Next Thursday join us at the Giant Mine Boat Launch at 7:30 pm!!!!

Supply list is as follows:
some hairdryers, a sink with running
water, rolls of tissue paper, water containers, firm boards (arborite board is
great) to which one can tape the Arches watercolour paper, 1" 3M masking
tape and utility knife, and any other miscellanious things you want to
supply.
Drawing materials.
Pencils: 2-B, 4-B and
6-B. A 2 mm. "mechanical" pencil is great for achieving,
consistant sharp lines.
A medium size stomp for shading,
about the thickness of a pencil.
Staedtler eraser.
Pens: Staedtler 0.5 mm. I also
use a "Double Sharpie", a wonderful tool. It has a fine and
thick tip.
Sketchbook: about 8" x 11".
110 Lbs. paper. This is fairly heavy paper, which can take some
watercolour washes. Do not use thin gage paper.
Brushes.
Brushes: Round: a #
2 "rigger" brush, a #2, #6, #8, and #12. and a squirrel
"mop", which is used to lay in broad washes.
Flat: 1/4", 1/2", and 1". Add to this list any other brushes you
prefer to work with, rolled up in a bamboo brush holder for protection.
Paper.
"Arches" 140 Lbs. 100
percent cotton rag watercolour paper, or equivalent. You can buy this in a
"block form", 8" x 11" is convenient for this trip.
Paper tissues, a sponge, a towell, a
collapsible watercontainer, atomizer, or spraybottle. Masking tape, and rigid
board onto which you can tape your work, if you work with individual sheets of
paper. Do not buy wood pulp based, so called "watercolour
paper"! Look for: 100 percent cotton rag paper.
Tracing paper block.
Paints.
Yellow Ochre, Permanent Yellow deep,
Lemon Yellow, Aureolin Yellow.
Scarlet Lake Red, Brown Madder,
Permanent Rose, Opra or Magenta.
French Ultramarine Blue, Prussian
Blue, Cobalt Blue, Cerulean, or Manganese Blue, Royal Blue and Indigo.
Viridian Green.
