Painting Saturday

June 2nd is our last Painting Saturday for this season. This Saturday we will meet Lynn Trudeau at City Hall and do our first On Location painting. I hope that the weather is co-operative. If it is not, then Lynn will have room 215 at NUP open.

Remember to bring a baseball cap to provide shade for your eyes, something to sit on (those folding chairs also have a place to put a cup of water in the arms), bug dope, and a smaller version of your painting items. Remember that you will most likely hold the pallet in your hand. Mechanical pencil for sketching the scene before you paint it. And anything else you might think you need...brushes, water supply and so on. Bring water from home in a jug.

Remember this is our first adventure. None of us have ever done this before so learning is the order of the day. I am sure we will refine our supplies as we get some practice.

The day starts at 10 am and goes until 3 pm. Come and drop in for an hour, or stay the whole day.

Plans for Still Life set-up

In late September or early October the watercolour group will have a Still Life set up event. I asked Betty if she would be willing to help me with this event, and she said "yes"...

I have been looking at websites and in magazines to get some ideas of Still Life set ups.

So if you want to try creating your own Still Life, then over the summer you can pick up or get together items that you like to include (flowers can be bought close to the day we will be doing it...TBA). I plan to look for a crystal vase and a silver item or two while I am out this summer. Think about background ideas as well. Fabric or lacy items work well.

We will have a bright lamp to shine on our set ups to give us sharp clear shadows. We will take digital photos, downloaded the images on to a computer and then we will use a digital projector to enlarge the image to the wanted size. Tracing the image on to poster paper will allow everyone to go home with an image quickly.

See you in June!

Meeting on May 14

Our weekend course with Helena was really great. Her skill with the brush was amazing and I found to be quite inspiring. Everyone who can come on Monday night, please bring your painting along for show and tell.

If you have never been to a meeting this is the one you want to come to. We got word yesterday that the slide show from the Canadian Society of Painters of Water Colour (who on earth named this group!?!) will be here on Thursday afternoon. Yahoo! So come and see what is happening nationally in our medium.

Mondays meeting is our AGM. There will be a short meeting part. We have three positions that need to be filled, Treasurer, Secretary and one more Member-at-large. We have three other people who put their names forward for other positions. I will say it again, I don't like long meetings. Most of our meetings are 1/2 hour long...Period. So it isn't an onerous job.

Come and join us!
See you on Monday night, Room 205 at NUP at 7:30 pm.

Here is the first photo on our new blogsite. This is from Helena's class this past weekend. Look at the amazing work we did!

Welcome to YWS new blog

The other day someone mentioned that I should think about starting a blog... I completely dismissed his suggestion as it would take too much work. But after giving it some thought, I realized that it won't be any more work than my monthly e-mail and now I will just do it here and send out a simplified e-mail address.

Hope you all enjoy it. Notice also our organization has an e-mail address...we are moving on up!
