Frans arrives late on November 6th.  His lecture is scheduled on Thursday November 7th at 7pm.  He will be teaching on Friday at a school in Behchoko on the Friday. Then we have him for three days!  He is going to teach us how to paint a landscape but with a Yellowknife setting.

We have a limit of 12 students.  The cost of the course is 220.00 with membership included!  There are 2 spaces left.

If you are already a member you will receive the info for registration.  If you are not a member but are interested in the course make sure you sign up for our newsletter.  The sign up form is on the right hand side of this blog.

Supply list is as follows:

some hairdryers, a sink with running water, rolls of tissue paper, water containers, firm boards (arborite board is great) to which one can tape the Arches watercolour paper, 1" 3M masking tape and utility knife, and any other miscellanious things you want to supply.

Drawing materials.
Pencils: 2-B, 4-B and 6-B.   A 2 mm. "mechanical" pencil is great for achieving, consistant sharp lines.
A medium size stomp for shading, about the thickness of a pencil.
Staedtler eraser.
Pens: Staedtler 0.5 mm. I also use a "Double Sharpie", a wonderful tool. It has a fine and thick tip.
Sketchbook: about 8" x 11". 110 Lbs. paper. This is fairly heavy paper, which can take some watercolour washes. Do not use thin gage paper.

Brushes.
Brushes: Round: a # 2 "rigger" brush, a #2, #6, #8, and #12. and a squirrel "mop", which is used to lay in broad washes.
Flat: 1/4", 1/2", and 1". Add to this list any other brushes you prefer to work with, rolled up in a bamboo brush holder for protection.

Paper.
"Arches" 140 Lbs. 100 percent cotton rag watercolour paper, or equivalent. You can buy this in a "block form", 8" x 11" is convenient for this trip.
Paper tissues, a sponge, a towell, a collapsible watercontainer, atomizer, or spraybottle. Masking tape, and rigid board onto which you can tape your work, if you work with individual sheets of paper. Do not buy wood pulp based, so called "watercolour paper"! Look for: 100 percent cotton rag paper.
Tracing paper block.

Paints.
Yellow Ochre, Permanent Yellow deep, Lemon Yellow, Aureolin Yellow.
Scarlet Lake Red, Brown Madder, Permanent Rose, Opra or Magenta.
French Ultramarine Blue, Prussian Blue, Cobalt Blue, Cerulean, or Manganese Blue, Royal Blue and Indigo.
Viridian Green.

We have been holding an annual Art Show since 2008.  Check it out!    This year we have our show on May 25th from 10 am to 4 pm in the auditorium at Northern United Place.  Come and see what we have been up to.

Spring is trying to spring and we have a Tulip to paint!!!!

Our meeting is a week early each May because of the first long weekend of the "summer".  I quote that because we often get snow on that long weekend...so we are going to be trying to prompt by painting a single tulip.  (this painting made me realize that a single tulip is what we have time to do on Monday night)

So join us on Monday May 13, 7pm in room 205 at Northern United Place.

Bring paint, paper, and all the regular supplies.  If you are new to painting we have extra supplies for you to play with!

Our annual Art Show and Sale is on May 25th in the auditorium at NUP!  Hopefully you will come and see what we have been doing all winter long!

April must mean strawberries!

Our meeting in April is on the 15th at  7pm in NUP Room 205!  We are doing a strawberry!  Bring the following items:
Paints,
toothpicks or very small brush, masking fluid (I have plenty)

paper, transfer graphite paper, brushes and so on and so forth.

Bring along your Show and Tells!  We are only 6 weeks away from our Annual Art Show and Sale!!! Mark your calendars for May 25th!

See you soon...

March madness with tomatoes!

So we did the "dreaded" tomato at our last meeting in March.  :)  And we discovered it wasn't as bad as we were lead to believe!

 Kevin's completed tomato

Joyce and her tomato.  I forgot to take the "group" photo of the tomatoes but they will be on display in May at our annual Art Show.

Show and Tell is always inspirational. Doris brought in things she has been working on!  Thanks Doris.

Such cool looking lilies!  I love the way Doris did the painting outside of the edge.

Kevin brought in a painting that he was looking for feedback on.

See you soon!!!  The April meeting is my next post.

February Meeting

We had a great meeting on Monday night.  We are getting through a range of veggies and fruit and learning so much.  The part I liked was seeing the great apples from the last meeting!

Lynn playing around.  Love the trees in a distance.

Lynn's trees and bridges are great.

Watching the video for doing a lemon.  It was quite interesting.

Shawna and Doris' lemon.

Next month we are doing a tomato!  Hopefully we will see you then.

January SketchCrawl

On January 19th (-33 C with a wind chill of -49) Lynn and I were the only two to go to the first Yellowknife SketchCrawl...could be because there wasn't much in the way of advertising!

The next SketchCrawl is on April 13th!  10:30 am meeting place to be announced. I have to say that I hope that we have much nicer outside weather!
